A rare and important antique American scrimshaw oval sewing basket made of finely pierced whalebone lattice work circa 1860. Notice the pierced hearts and diamonds. The bottom is made of a fruitwood and the whole is held together with hammered silver wire. Size: 9.5 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches.
