Magnificent Antique Scrimshaw Sewing Chest

Magnificent antique scrimshaw sewing chest with folding mirror circa 1875. A true labor of love, made of mahogany with whale ivory, whale bone, baleen, and tropical wood inlays. Five exterior drawers, six interior drawers, and a secret compartment. Exhibited at The Museum of American Folk Art 1967 and Mystic Seaport Museum 1978. Ex. Barbara Johnson and Cohen Collections. Excellent condition, measures 13-1/4" high by 14-1/4" wide by 11" depth.
