Vintage Nantucket Whaling Scene Model

Vintage carved and painted Sperm whale with model whaleboat with whalers. American, circa 1950, ex Nantucket based collection.

Sperm whale is accurately carved and has inset metal teeth on his bottom jaw, incised eye and raised fins behind the eyes. The whale is painted in a variety of shades of green. Whaleboat is accurately rendered and is painted white with black details and gray interior with five seats, mast step, four rowing oars, and one longer steering oar. Oars are held by five carved and painted beautifully detailed whalers. A sixth whaler is standing at the bow holding a harpoon. Inside the whaleboat are various whaling instruments, a ferkin and a few tubs of line. There is a harpoon which runs from the logger head with a line which fits into a hole along the top of the back of the whale

Excellent original condition. Sperm Whale measures 23" long; Whaleboat: 21" long.
