Skeleton Tower Brant Point Painting by John Austin

Egg tempera on board painting by Nantucket artist John Austin (1918 - 2000). Depicts a Coast Guard skeleton tower on Brant Point Nantucket. This tower (one of two) is used to display weather and navigational information (range lights) to water craft at the entrance of Nantucket harbor. Flag shown in painting is a small craft warning. Unusual vertical composition, yet the  subject matter, perspective, and color palette are typical for a John Austin painting. Signed on front with his CT address on back indicating this is an early work of his. Framed in black / white wood frame. Measures 13" by 10-1/2" overall.
