Antique Whalebone Adze from Nantucket. Tool used by Nantucket Indians shows evidence of considerable use. Impossible to date accurately, but similar ones found in a Nantucket cache were estimated to be from the Late Woodland Culture, 500 to 1650. See Decorative Arts and Crafts of Nantucket page 162 for more information. Measures 8-3/4" long.
