Antique Scrimshaw Sperm Whale Tooth "The Native Tooth"

Rare and important Sperm whale tooth known as "The Native" circa 1850. Depicts a South Seas native offering a gourd of water underneath two palms and besides a hut. Reverse shows an active whaling scene with whaleship in the background. A rare and wonderful artifact from the golden age of whaling representing both the exotic allure and the danger of the Yankee whaler. Ex. Barbara Johnson Collection & Cohen Collection. Excellent condition with minor chipping and age cracks; normal with age. Measures 6-1/2". Includes custom acrylic stand.
