Antique James Durfee Single Flue Harpoon from Ship Hero of Nantucket

Rare and important single flue harpoon marked J D (James Durfee), the ship mark S HERO for the whaleship Hero, and a boat mark consisting of 2 lines. Large head has remnants of paint. Measures 34-1/2" long.

The ship Hero was a prolific whaler making whaling voyages from Nantucket 1792 to 1860.
