A rare and important swing-handle Nantucket Lightship Basket made by William Appleton circa 1900. Owned by President Theodore Roosevelt and marked "SAGAMORE HILL", his residence at Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY. The basket was often used by the President's favorite baker - the stains came from blueberries picked and delivered for baking. A truly wonderful basket with a superb provenance. Good condition with repairs to the rim wrap and scattered weaving losses. Beautiful rich dark patina. Size: 9.5 inch diameter. Sorry, SOLD
