Rare and important American antique scrimshaw pie crimper

An important and rare American scrimshaw double wheel pie crimper. The wheel holders are carved American Eagles and one holds an elaborately pierced whale ivory wheel and the other a rare carved wooden ebony wheel. The handle is carved from one piece of walrus ivory and is inlaid with baleen dots. The end has a fully carved fist holding an ebony wood ring. A very similar example is illustrated in the McManus scrimshaw book (see group photograph of great examples from the New Bedford Whaling Museum). Recently discovered in an important Woodstock, Vermont collection. Fresh to the market. This a really wonderful example. Excellent condition with no repairs or replacements. Size: 7.5 inches long.
