Antique master's journal of the whaleship Shylock of Rochester, Massachusetts July 12, 1835 to February 14, 1837. Purchased at the Barbara Johnson Collection sale at Sotheby's 9/25/1982, Session 3, Lot 361 for $4,400. 158 pages of entries with handwritten weather observations, detailed descriptions of events, and a few whale stamps. Later rebound with title on edge and embossed with Barbara Johnson Library seal. Very good condition for its age, some loose pages. Measures 13" by 8-1/4".
