Antique Scrimshaw Coconut Water Dipper with Carved Shield

Choice antique American scrimshaw water dipper with carved coconut bowl circa 1860. An American shield with three stars and five stripes is carved on the front of the bowl. The beautifully shaped handle is constructed of whalebone and exotic tropical wood with three whale ivory inlaid pins. The handle is attached to a copper shield. Very good condition with scattered wear. Size: 15 inches long.
